Use the manufacturer’s dimension definitions
Technical drawings distinguish fixture thickness, drilled-hole depth and embedment. fischer’s FBS IN guide labels these separately. Hilti also explains that effective embedment is used in anchor calculations and describes where the load-transfer mechanism engages the concrete. Overall anchor length is not a replacement for that design dimension.

Keep purchasing data separate from design assumptions
A buyer may know the fixture thickness and the requested anchor length but still lack the product-specific installation dimensions. Preserve those missing fields in the schedule and ask for clarification. Do not infer an effective embedment simply by subtracting one visible measurement from another.
This matters when comparing two proposed products. Their catalogue lengths may be identical while their documented configurations differ. The supplier should return the relevant drawing and identify the offered configuration so that the project reviewer can assess the proposal.
Build a dimension schedule that survives handover
Use the terminology on the approved product drawing. Add units to each numerical field and keep the revision reference visible. A warehouse colleague or installation coordinator should be able to trace the item back to the same drawing used during purchasing.
- Product model and ordered overall length.
- Fixture thickness and drawing reference.
- Specified embedment definition and value, supplied by the technical review.
- Required drill diameter and hole depth from the product instructions.
- Required base-material thickness and layout information for review.
- Included nut, washer and any other specified components.
Watch for changes after the original quotation
A change to a base plate, bracket or finish can alter the information that purchasing originally sent to the supplier. Ask the project team to flag revised fixture drawings before the order is released. Keep the previous revision attached to the history, but make the current one unmistakable.
For an illustrative procurement scenario, suppose a bracket drawing is revised after samples arrive. The correct next step is to ask for a fresh review against the revised drawing, not to choose a longer anchor by intuition. A different ordered length may or may not address the requirement.
Document the final item code, accepted drawing and supporting instructions in the purchase order. This gives both parties a clear reference if the delivered dimensions are questioned.
Send a complete dimensional enquiry
DURANCHOR buyers can provide the fixture drawing together with the desired anchor family and quantity schedule. Ask for confirmation of the offered product dimensions and available technical information. Keep structural sizing and installation requirements with the responsible project reviewer; a sales quotation should record the accepted specification rather than create it.
Frequently asked questions
Is hole depth the same as effective embedment?
Not necessarily. Use the separate definitions and values in the selected anchor’s technical documentation.
Can I solve a thicker fixture by ordering a longer anchor?
Have the revised arrangement checked against the exact product and design requirements before changing the order.
